DI Resin Mixed Bed Color Product Specs

Standard Features

  • Five pound bag of mixed bed DI resin for spot free water. This is enough resin to refill (4 +) 10 inch filters.
  • This is mixed bed and color changing resin. Both cation and anion resins are combined in this one bag. Color changing resin changes color as resin is used up (exhausted).
  • Refills/quantity: We provide options for refills! Choose from either: 1 x 5# Bag (4 x 10" Refills), 2 x #5 Bag (8 x 10" Refills), 4 x 5# Bag (16 x 10" Refills), and 8 x 5# Bag (32 x 10" Refills).
  • We also offer bulk Anion and bulk Cation resins. This is enough for 4 refills of our refillable Clear Canister.
  • RESINTECH MBD-30 is a self indicating mixed bed resin. It is a mix of nuclear grade hydrogen and hydroxide form resins. The anion resin is a Type I strongly basic gel resin with an indicator dye that changes from blue to colorless as the resin exhausts. The cation component is a strong acid sulfonated polystyrene gel type cation exchange resin.

The Process of Deionization Resin

During exhaustion, as the indicator dye changes color, the appearance of the deionization mixed bed changes from a blue color to a light golden brown/amber color. Many manufacturing processes require high purity water for washing, rinsing and test purposes. Not all processes requiring demineralized water need the ultimate quality. However, they may require multi-megohm resistivity water.

RESINTECH MBD-30 is designed to provide demineralized water with a resistivity in excess of 10 megohm. It is specially intended for use in cartridge applications with clear (see through) housings. Such systems are typically designed without meters and rely on the changing color of the DI mixed bed resin to indicate exhaustion. In typical operation there is a safety line at the exit end of the cartridge, and when the color change reaches that level, the cartridge is considered exhausted and exchanged for a fresh cartridge.

The actual quality that is obtained depends on the manner in which the cartridge is configured. A constant supply of high purity water can be obtained by using two cartridges in series, and allowing the first cartridge to completely change color.

During this operation, the second cartridge ensures that the water leaving the system is of the highest purity. New cartridges are placed into the polishing position and the remaining cartridge is put into the roughing position. This ensures complete utilization of all the exchange capacity, which lowers operating costs while increasing average quality.

RESINTECH MBD-30 is manufactured from nuclear grades of gel Type I strongly basic anion resins and strongly acidic sulfonated polystyrene gel type cation exchange resins.

Deionization Resin Mixed Bed FAQs

What is mixed bed DI resin?

Mixed bed DI resin is a combination of anion and cation resins used in water purification to remove both positive and negative ions, resulting in highly purified water. This type of resin is often used in applications requiring extremely high water purity, such as in laboratories and industrial processes.

What is the ratio of resin in a mixed bed?

The typical ratio of DI resin in a mixed bed is 1:1, with equal parts of anion and cation resins. This balanced mixture ensures that both types of ions are effectively removed from the water, providing optimal deionization and maintaining the quality of the purified water.

How to separate mixed bed resin?

To separate mixed bed resin, one can use a process involving backwashing and gravity settling. By applying water pressure in the opposite direction, the lighter anion resin beads float to the top while the heavier cation resin beads settle at the bottom, allowing for physical separation.

How long does a resin bed last?

The lifespan of a deionization resin bed depends on the water quality and volume of usage but typically ranges from 6 months to a year. Regular monitoring and timely regeneration or replacement are essential to maintain the effectiveness of the resin bed and ensure consistent water purity.
